- THE INTERNATIONAL PATTERN & ITS ANOMALIES -

-77-

Sometimes you find a deck, that hasn't been documented in any of our books on playing cards and when the box is missing too, then it's hard to give any info at all. So you can only describe what you see. And even then you're left with questions: is this a "Hans & Gretel" deck, as mentioned on the backs, or a "Jack & Jill" deck, as mentioned on the wild cards. We go for the latter, as the inserted heads on the courts are, in style, pretty similar to the drawn Jack & Jill. Maybe the Hans & Gretel refers to the name of a restaurant (or a chain of them).

The designer took an easy day. There are just two designs of the heads and basically 2 designs of the center part too. With mirroring these, replacing colours and adding small details, like attributes, hands or flowers, a lot of time can be gained. The Jack of Spades is one-eyed, but seems to look the wrong way, just like the suicide King uses the wrong arm. Advertising Aces and 2 identical wild cards complete the 52 cards.

          sorry, no further info!
