- THE INTERNATIONAL PATTERN & ITS ANOMALIES -

-36-

Contrary to Germany, in the UK (here filed as "Engeland") the pattern is widely used and, although our collection of nonstandard English decks isn't that big, we found 5 decks suitable for this xpo.

The deck here below is a reproduction and shows an older version of the pattern with redrawn heads and names of countries incorporated in the center design. It's a nice example of an adapted use of the pattern from the 19th century.

The original deck was made by De La Rue & Co in 1874 to celebrate the wedding of Alfred and Mary Alexandrovina. It was designed by Reuben Townroe.

This reproduction was printed by Swift Print of Stroud and published by John Berry. It was a gift to his fellow IPCS members during their Convention in London in 2003.
