- THE INTERNATIONAL PATTERN & ITS ANOMALIES -

-48-

Here's one again, that is stretching the pattern rules to the limits. It was published for a music group called Crazyrider, so it's no wonder that the attributes have mainly been replaced by guitars. The courts' features suggest that the same person is depicted on each of the denominations. And when we look at the designs closely, it becomes clear that the group consists of 4 persons. The King is a mustachioed bass player, the Queen and Jack obviously sing and each play a 6-string guitar too. On the joker we see the drummer. The name of the group is in the wave on each court card. The direction of the wave seems randomly chosen for each court.

Although the center designs are not complex,  we see a few elements that made us decide to put it in this xpo. The attribute of the Jack of Spades can be found in the some versions of the original pattern. Together with the flowers of the Queens, the faint attempt of the King of Hearts to commit suicide by guitar and the embellished Ace of Spades (others are plain) this was convincing enough for us.

The "Crazyrider" deck was printed by Nintendo from Kyoto and published by the King Record Co. Ltd in 1982. The deck consists of 52 cards and 2 jokers.
