- THE INTERNATIONAL PATTERN & ITS ANOMALIES -
-70-
This deck comes from the US, where it was published as "Fun & Games" for Ben & Jerry's, famous for their ice-cream, in 2007. The deck was printed in Turnhout, Belgium, by Carta Mundi.
At first glance the courts all seem to look alike.
The reason
why we still show all the courts here is to demonstrate that even a low-budget
design can be effective. Here all the K's, Q's and J's basically have the same
design. The basic cow's head design, which refers to the use of milk or cream for the
Ben&Jerry's products, is the same on the Kings and Jacks and even on the
Queens, but here that is obscured by the Queen's crown. Note the small earring
that has been added as the female touch on the Queens.
All the center designs of each denomination
are the same. Even the attributes are almost identical: the Kings hold a cone,
the Jacks a spoon and only on the Queens for some reason two types of flowers
are used. In all the designs the difference is made by the colors. These are used to
emphasize the 4 different flavors of ice-cream, that are presented per suit..
The deck consists of 52 cards and 2 jokers, that show Ben and Jerry holding a cone. |
