April 17
Friday
afternoon usually means after work drinks together. A bit difficult at the
moment, but I'll do my share and raise a glass of good old Bud in the lockdown
series.
A
first deck was published by the Anheuser-Busch company in 1898 at the end of the
war, but this second
"Spanish American War" deck (also printed by the USPCC) was published
2 years after the war, in 1900. Kings and Jacks show officers in the American army,
two on each card. The aces show the different Anheuser-Busch brands. Just like
in the first edition each card has a light brown picture of the Anheuser-Busch
plant in St. Louis, but in this edition all 4's have a picture of a (different)
American warship.
COMMENT:
Matt Schacht: This
deck also came in red, green and blue backs with a matching color slip-cover
box.
