Jody's work has gone through several phases. Her first recognizable style is known as "Dreamkeepers" and shows a magical world with wide-eyed creatures and fantasy friends. I believe her first deck is partly in this style.
The second style is called "Natural Elements" and her second deck (see below) is done in this style. Here she shows how the nature and animals around her have inspired her creations.

In this deck too the suitcolours keep their special meaning. The Spades (earth / body) are represented by solid animals like the buffalo. The Clubs (air - mind) show different birds, like the owl or the eagle and the Diamonds (water - emotion) whales and dolphins.

Jody Bergsma had already illustrated some children's books before she wrote and illustrated her own book "Dragon" in 1999. Later followed "The Little Wizard" and  "Faerie".  They were a great success and not only because of her unique style in illustrations.

From her website and gallery she sells her art in many different forms, from greeting cards to mugs. But all carry her fine technique and vivid imagination. If you want to see some more examples of her work or buy a deck of cards, visit: http://www.bergsma.com
