The BIJENKORF

The department store of the Bijenkorf (Bee Have). It's the most important department store in Amsterdam. It was build in 1911 on the spot where the old bourse building had been. Here the store is depicted in b/w on the ace of Spades from an advertising deck for the Bijenkorf concern, that was made by the Speelkaartenfabriek Nederland in the 1930’s.

At the end of the building you can see the trees from the Beursplein. The long side of the building is situated along the Damrak and holds the main entrance. The short side is situated on the Dam square, although that part wasn't called Dam square when this image was made.
