Q: Did I turn a wrong page?
A: No, you're still in the Pin-Up & Erotica xpo.

Q: But why show a training deck for employees of a television manufacturer in this section?
A: Because the Kaye-Halbert TV Sales Feature Cards have a special feature.

Q: And this has to do with pin-up's?
A: Please read on...........

The deck was published in the US (and probably printed there too) by Kaye-Halbert TV in the mid 1950's. It was meant to be a training deck for their salesmen. The extra card explains how to use them with trainees during an instruction meeting.

Each of the cards has a different image, sometimes a photo, but mostly a drawn one, and a caption with information about the Kaye-Halbert TV's and all their extra's. But the extra card also mentions Peter Gowland and this is where the reason for the presentation here begins......

Peter Gowland was born on April 3, 1916 and he died on March 17, 2010. He was a professional photographer for almost 60 years. His father was an actor and Peter grew up on movie sets, where he learned about lighting and photo techniques. He built his own equipment and studio's and later on even developed his own camera, the twin-lens Gowlandflex camera, which has later been used by other famous photographers like Annie Leibovitz. By the 1950's he has made his name as a glamour and pin-up photographer and in 1954 his first book was published, "How to photograph women". Around that time the Kaye-Halbert TV company published this deck too and the special feature of the deck is that it has 55 different pictures by Peter Gowland on the backs. So it shows early work of this photographer, who has made photo's for over 1000 magazine covers and wrote 25 books about glamour and nude photography.

We have been looking for decks, that would link the glamour photography with the later pin-up, and this deck comes very close, although the photo's are on the backs and not on the faces. So we're happy to present you all the backs here, as they show the thin line between glamour and pin-up photography in the early 1950's.

ENJOY!

The deck consists of 52 cards and 4 extra cards. One of them is the card with the description of Peter Gowland and his work, the other three show Kaye-Halbert products with a caption. Here below the backs in that order, showing that even a Great Dane has a glamorous side.
