THE REPRO

This deck is a rather well done reproduction of the original deck. It was printed in offset by Carta Mundi and published in the Netherlands to promote the Amstel 1870 beer brand. The original designs haven't been altered and the name of Leonard Biermans is still on the Queen of Spades, just like the word "déposé" (sorry for the upside down scan) on the Jack of Hearts. No indices or numbers were added. Nowadays the reproduction isn't seen that often anymore, but if you find one it's almost every time in unused condition. The average player doesn't like playing cards without numbers.

There are a few differences between the repro and the original deck. Not visible is the size: the original cards measure 64 x 97 mm and these cards here measure 56 x 87 mm. But there are more apparent differences too. Where the original deck had plain aces, the aces of the repro have been embellished with the ingredients for beer. And nowadays a deck isn't complete without jokers, so those were designed in an almost fitting style and use of color. Note the subtle advertising on the stein. Of course the back design was changed to an advertising one for the beer and was done in style with the designs on the aces.
