PIN-UP'S & EROTICA
-54-
There's not much that we can tell about this deck. It came in
a blank, gray carton box. Because of the back design, we may assume that the
deck was titled "What the butler saw". This titles could suggest a
British origin. The cards are printed on cheap "see through" card. It
suggests a small printing firm instead of one of the professional playing card
makers.
Judging by the pictures the deck probably dates from the mid 1950's. Not because
the pictures are in b/w, but rather because of the retouching work. In some
poses the most private parts are retouched in a way that sometimes renders the
models almost sexless. Although shaving one's pubic hair wasn't in fashion until
the 1990's, for some pictures these models were "shaven" with a
retouching airbrush. And in some poses to the extreme, see the King of Hearts,
but the 9 of Spades is a nice example too.
This phenomenon is seen in other decks from that era.
