When I returned the sheet with
yesterday's deck in the holder, I noticed this deck. It reminded me of a sunny
Saturday in Lille, France, where Miriam found this deck during the "Moules-Frites"
festival. The deck was printed by La Turnhoutoise from Turnhout, Belgium, and
published around 1950. Luc Biebouw describes it as "Whist", but on our
file card Miriam had added "Salonkaarten" to that. I guess that this
is also mentioned on the box.
There's just one puzzling thing and that's the index on the Jacks. Kn is a
regular used index for jacks in Sweden and Denmark, but not in Belgium. The deck
isn't seen very often here, maybe because it was made for export one of the
Scandinavian countries.
