December 27
Lats week I took this deck out
of the holder and upstairs to my desk. There was an interesting eBay auction of
a tiny version of this deck and I wanted to compare the images, because John
Laffler had attributed it to Dondorf in his description, although he said that
there was no mention of the name Dondorf on any of the cards. He was already
quite old when he had lunch with us in New Haven during the 2000 convention, so
he must be of considerable age now and his eyesight too. The name Dondorf was
clearly on the JC. His version isn't mentioned in the Braun catalogue. I've
taken the picture from the auction, as I was sadly outbid and the small deck was
sold for $ 175.
So here's the original sized deck, the double imaged version of the
International pattern for Portugal, which was produced by Dondorf from around
1867 to 1895. I think I have posted it here a long time ago, but this way it
will be shown on my site now too after this lockdown series has ended.
The single imaged version is already to be seen there as Deck of the Month in
March 2014. See: deck-month-14
and press 03.
