November 2020
It wasn't difficult to choose a deck this month when you've published one yourself. That project kept me busy for more than a month, but I was pleased that it was ready to be published on November 22 as a sort of anniversary present for me. |
I had seen the designs for a deck at a friend's house, but somehow that was never published. The artwork looked familiar and I found out that this artist had already done the designs for the Dutch "Cato" deck, which was published in 1996. |
I really liked his artwork, so I decided to contact the artist and our first meeting was mid August.
Artists never retire and Pim Leefsma, born in 1947, is no exception. He's a painter and graphic artist, living in Gouda (Netherlands), and some examples of his work can be seen at his website, www.pimleefsma.nl He has had many exhibitions in different Dutch galleries, but also in galleries and institutes in Paris, London and Washington. Nowadays he spends his days painting, drawing and designing objects and special plates. So he was pleasantly surprised, when I approached him for this project. Artists do like to see their work in print. Several meetings followed and together we chose the designs for this deck. I found a nearby small printshop and their proposal for the total costs was quite fair, so my DTP work could begin. It took me several weeks in October to mold all the designs into playing cards, design the box and stamp to seal the box with, but in the end I was very pleased with the way it turned out. I hope you can enjoy the result too......
The deck consists of 52 cards, 2 jokers and an extra card, which is numbered and signed by Pim.
Each
box is sealed with a numbered stamp, corresponding with the number on the extra
card.
The back design of the box is the same as that of the backs of the cards.
