The present Magna Plaza building was built in 1899 and designed by C. P. Peters in neo-gothic style.

 Originally it was the main post office in Amsterdam until it became the first shopping mall in Amsterdam. The intricate stonework of the building is admired by many.

The former post office is situated on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, slightly to the right across of the main entrance of the Royal Palace.
